Dramatherapy

Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that intentionally uses creativity and symbolic ways of working. This can include play, metaphor, story, movement and image-making — alongside talking.

There’s no performance or expectation to ‘act’ — dramatherapy isn’t about putting on a show. You don’t need to think of yourself (or your child) as creative. We work collaboratively and at a pace that feels manageable.

Everything is an invitation. You choose what feels right for you.

How Dramatherapy can help

Dramatherapy can be especially helpful when experiences are hard to put into words, when feelings feel big or confusing, or when you want a therapeutic approach that makes room for imagination, the body and relationship.

I offer 1:1 dramatherapy for children, adolescents and adults in Hastings, working in a way that’s responsive to each person’s needs, and creating space for exploration, expression and connection.

Session frameworks can differ depending on age and need. Typically there is a verbal or creative ‘check-in’, followed by invitation and suggestion of activities that can help to explore whatever theme is more deeply. However, with younger children sessions often jump into projective play or crafts. Sessions last 50min or 1hr.

Dramatherapy can support people navigating big feelings, identity questions, relationship challenges, trauma, or experiences that are difficult to express in words.
